The outage window won’t open twice. The checklist stayed in the truck.
Line patrols, substation checklists, lockout and grounding permits, commissioning protocols and fault evidence. PAIR digitizes your checklist exactly as it is, your crew fills it out in a canyon with no signal, and every photo carries its coordinates and time.

Five different jobs, and who does them today
| Today | |
|---|---|
| The transmission line inspector walks it structure by structure with a paper checklist. | Structure patrol and right-of-way clearanceEvery finding on the KMZ line route, with coordinates and GPS accuracy, and the insulator face as one more checklist field, marked on the ridge, not from memory on Monday. |
| The substation technician fills it out on paper, racing the outage window. | Substation bay maintenance checklistThe manufacturer’s checklist digitized as is, on the plan by level (yard, control house, station service), with statistics calculated from the fields, not by reading PDFs. |
| The switching supervisor fills it out by hand in the truck before touching the equipment. | Work permit: lockout, absence of voltage and groundingFive boxes that require a photo: visible break, lock, tag, tester reading zero and grounds actually installed. Boxes and photos work with no signal; the approval is signed with the server’s time, not the phone’s, so it needs a connection. |
| The owner’s electrical inspector and the commissioning manager run it on paper, protocol by protocol. | Commissioning a solar or wind farmThe details that always go missing: start time set by the server, participants signing on the spot, observations as a form field, and the backup photo with its location. |
| The emergency crew heads out that same night and sends photos over a messaging app. | Field evidence of a faultEquipment, as-found condition and switching performed, each with its time, and the photo skips the messaging app, so it arrives full size instead of compressed to a third. Coordinates and time are fields in the record, not metadata buried in the file. |

What happens today
For transmission, distribution, generation, and solar and wind farms. There’s no signal in the canyon, and waiting for one isn’t a plan.
The work permit gets filled out by hand on the hood of the truck, pen balanced on a knee, and the company copy comes back crumpled. The only time on record is the one somebody wrote down.
The patroller photographs the cracked insulator, but later nobody knows if the damage was on the north face or the south, and someone has to hike back up the ridge.
In May, the annual report gets built by reading scans, one shared-drive folder per year and per substation, and the missing sheet is always the one for the job that matters.
